Barnsburg Time Trial this Sunday

http://www.cumberlandcycles.com/index.html

Hello  Crew,

We will conduct the 2nd Event of the 2008 Barnsburg Time Trial Series this coming Sunday, April 6.  First rider off at 2 PM.

This event is for anybody and everybody who would like to post a time for the eight mile course. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RACER TO POST A TIME. It is not for just our racing crew but our entire crew!!!  Please consider coming out to see how fast you can ride eight miles and then do it again in the summer and fall to see how much faster (or slower) you are getting.

Here's how it will work:

In a time trail, one rider leaves the starting line every minute. The riders start time is recorded and when they finish, that time is recorded as well. There is no drafting allowed and each rider much navigate the course alone (with the exception of signed in teams). Based on the starting times and finishing times of each participant, the time trail official will calculate each riders total time on the course.

For this event, we will send our racing crew off first.... We will do this to get those folks out of the way for our club riders to feel comfortable having the course to themselves.

Please park at the Barnsburg Church, then ride one mile east to the start/finish area to get checked in and to get your start time.  Warm up on the course at will.  First rider off at 2 PM.  Plan to arrive between 1 and 1:30 so you can get ready, warmed up and checked in before you start time.

The course is a rolling, out and back course that can be rather challenging. Everybody will ride out 4 miles, turn around and go back to the starting area.

If you do not want to have your result posted on our web pages, please indicate this to the official and your time will not be published.

Two-person, three-person, and four-person teams will be accepted. If you are interested in this venue, form your team, give yourself a name and check in as a team. Teams will be timed based on the last member to finish.

PLEASE COME OUT AND JOIN US!!!!!!!!!  THE GREATEST THING I HEAR AS THE TEAM CAPTIAN IS NOT "I WON", BUT "I HAD FUN"!!!!!

I want us to be a fun team.... bike racing is fun and your team and club will support you only if you are having fun - winning or placing well is a bonus for us - but it is your sport... and if you're not having fun, what's the point?

ALL ARE WELCOME TO POST A TIME. Honor our club and team by your participation!  Every time posted is truly an honor to process.

Mt Victory Results

The Kentucky/Indiana Spring Series Race #3, THE MOUNT VICTORY ROAD RACE was an absolute success!!!!  Many many thanks goes to Mr. Charles Senters, Brad Herrman and Marc Travis, our three club members who organized this race. We also want to thank our many volunteers who did an absolutely perfect job marshalling this race!!!!  I just don't think it could have gone off any better. As a participant, I was extremely impressed with the job our marshals did.  I simply can not thank everybody enough.

MT victory results

This past week has been very busy for me.  Since before the MT. Victory Road Race I have had company of various sorts.  I have been unable to post any blogs or information regarding the race. However, I will certainly get back to work next week.

The team is racing this Saturday in KYIN Series Race #4 in Lexington... it is a Criterium and it should be a good one!

Series Race #2 - today

Adam Bourne with Great Position before he flatted!

The Kentucky/Indiana Spring Series Race #2 was attended by several Cumberland Cycles Race Team members and Crew Support today. Adam Bourne, Aaron Denney, JT, Jack Evans, and Charles Senters all participated in the Boonesboro Criterium today, even though the conditions were pretty yucky!  Also attending the race in mechanical support were Brad Herrman and in moral support, Mrs. Kim Cleberg.

Adam gets the award for the most bad luck, entering, flatting tires in and abandoning both races.   JT finished 8th in a main field finish in the masters 30+ race, Charles and Aaron duked it out for 8th and 9th in a spilt-off pack (1st and 2nd in the split-off pack) and Jack Evans got 17th. Aaron, Jack and Charles raced in the CAT 4/5 fields.

Even though Adam flatted out of both the masters 30+ and the CAT 4/5 races, he was in very good position to place very highly in the 4/5 race which makes his flat tire very disappointing!!!

THE NEXT RACE IS OUR OWN HERE AT MT. VICTORY!

Mount Victory Road Race - time critical

Cumberland Cycles Team Rider, Jay Garman at Maryville Crit 3/9/08

The Mount Victory Road Race is quickly approaching and the news has spread wide and far. Not only will we be getting most of the KY/IN competitors, many of the Tennessee teams are going to show up as well.

As a club member, If you are going to be competing in this race - we are not expecting much from you except to focus on the race itself. But Charles Senters and Brad Herrman, two of our club officers who have been working extremely hard to get the race put together have requested that our racers meet Friday night before the race to do a few errands. There will be a lot to do, and as these last two weeks tick down, Charles and Brad will have more and more things included on their "punch list". All of our club members have been asked to help out and a great many of them have signed on to help.  But we also need help from our competitors... and Charles has asked for a gathering of our racers (and club members) Friday night, before the race - to put the final touches on. If at all possible, please make yourself available that night, March 21. Charles and Brad will be in contact with you for times and places... and maybe even a punch list.

What to expect as a non-racing club volunteer

The races will leave the Shopville fire house at the designated times.  Each field will NOT return to the firehouse until the end of the race. So if you are stationed at the firehouse, you will see the fields leave and you will see them finish. If you are out on the course directing traffic, you will see many groups of riders come by and it will be difficult for you to discern who they are (what category).  That is ok. You will see packs of riders and you will see individual riders who are either off the front of a category or off the back. Please provide every rider will all the assistance you can in terms of safely passing your station.

Southern Belle Dairy will providing neutral water support on the race course on the hill up Providence Road. By the time the fields get to that point, the race should be fairly well staggered out. The difficulty of this terrain will shatter all of the fields in to small groups and individual riders. Southern Belle will be providing folks for this station.

There will more news from Brad and Charles, but we will have rolling support and rolling marshals as well. We will also have radio contact with most course marshals. I believe that we will providing transportation for all of the volunteers out to their designated marshalling station.... But please stay tuned as correspondence from our race directors will probably come within the next few days.

If you have not yet volunteered, please consider helping out.

Cumberland Cycles Club and Team Photos

Craig Dooley (PhotoReflect - kentucky backroads photography) will be at the race and the club will be hiring him to take a few photos our of club and team.  He will be covering the race on his own, but he will be taking club and team photos for us as well. We will ask all volunteers, club member and team members and sponsors to arrive at the race early to do this photo session with Craig.  Please stay tuned for those times.

The next time you are contacted regarding your participation in this race will be from our club officers.... so let me take this time to offer my gratitude to everybody who is going to volunteer or race in this event!

I especially want to thank Brad Herrman and Charles Senters for their hard work this winter getting this event together, and I also want to thank our club sponsors!

The Largest Week in American Amature Cycling

Super Week has been going on for years now.... super week!

Crew News

Hello  Everybody,

With the series race yesterday (March 8) postponed until April, Jay, JT, Jack, Aaron, and Jenny drove down to Knoxville today to do the Maryville Criterium.  Jay and Aaron raced in the general Category 5 field, Jack raced in the 50+, Jenny raced open women's (categories 1-4) and JT raced 30+ (Pro, 1-4)

The course was short and very fast!  Our highest placing rider was Jack Evans who got 11 in his event and 9th in his age!  This is outstanding considering that Jack has only been back out on the road for a week after his shoulder surgery.  Makes me think that maybe I should get me a surgery!

Everybody had a good time and it was nice to be around a criterium and watch all the racing.

NEXT ROAD EVENT LESS THAN AN HOUR FROM HOME

The Road Crew's next race will be this Saturday, March 15 just up the road near Richmond, Kentucky.... a Series race.  Here is the flyer!  It will be a great event to come and watch!

Fort Boonesborough Criterium

BARNSBURG RIDES TO RESUME ON TUESDAY, MARCH 11 AT 6 PM!!!!!!  These rides will go off every Tuesday and Thursday from now until the time change in the fall. The team will leave the church at 6 PM. Club rides will organize at Barnsburg as well. Please feel free to post a time for a ride of your liking on our club boards.
Cumberland Cycling Club | Google Groups

Every other Tuesday will be "race simulation" for the road team and road hopefuls.  We are in the process of locating a remote, short circuit (a mile or less) course to conduct one hour race simulations on.  These rides will be open to anybody who wants to give it a try.  If you get dropped, then you only have to pedal less than a mile back to your car.You can keep coming back until you don't get dropped anymore.  Stay tuned on this.

BARNSBURG TIME TRIAL EVENT #2

Realizing that this is Easter Sunday, we will hold the second Barnsburg Time Trial event on March 23 for anybody who wants to come out and post a time.  You do not have to be a racer to post a time. This event is open to anybody who would like to see how fast they can cover an eight mile course. First rider is off at exactly 2 PM and one rider will leave the start area every minute.

Our President - Brad Herrman

Many people have spent a great deal of energy brining our racing crew and cycling club up.  Brad Herrman is a fellow who has worked very hard.... His efforts should not go unrecognized.

Mr. Charles Senters and Marc Travis and Jack Evans are also people who have been instrumental in not only bringing our first sanctioned race to this area, but advocating cycling and cycle sports in general.

The next time you see any of these folks - thank them. Thank for for me... because it means the world to me to see what is happening in our community.

Jack Evans upgrades to Catigory IV

Congratulations to Jack Evans who's recent request to USA Cycling for upgrade was granted without question. This is due to Jack's outstanding proformance last year in many races.

Jack's upgrade will insure that he will be permitted to compete at will in open Masters fields for the remainder of his cycling career (most masters mass-start road events require a minimum catigory IV qualification).

Jack is only one upgrade away (roughly ten races) from general qualifications for Naitonal Masters Championships!  (Catigory III or higher is required to enter Nationals)

Season Openers

Hello  Everybody,

photo:L' esprit

Well, many of our racing crew spend the weekend RACING!!!  The road season opener was held Saturday in Louisville.  JT, Aaron and Jenny Denney, Jay Garman, Brad Herman and Adam Bourne all went up to this huge Spring Series Race and it was a fantastic time. Jay, Adam, Aaron and Charles all raced in the 4/5 field with Adam and Charles getting pack finishes. That is incredible because with field size for the 4/5 field was 94 riders!!!!  Actually, going into the final corner with 200 meters to the finish line, Charles was in excellent field position to actually win the race but he went down because some other rider cut him off!

JT raced in the 3/4 field and had a great race with a field finish. He actually helped out some friends of Cumberland Cycles - Eric Barnett with Mullet Ranch/McDonalds. Eric was able to put a team mate off the front in a breakaway, and since JT was racing by himself, he decided to assist our friends.

Jenny Denney raced in the open women's race cat 1-4 and did very well with a 13th place finish. Jenny field included the current women's national champion.

Also racing this weekend, Sunday, in the Max Performance Triathlon in Shelbyville, were Dr. Mark Henry, DR Swanner and Dave Stewart. Mark won his division, DR got a 2nd place finish with Dave navigating a very completive field for a 4th place!!!!

All of our races were proud to wear Cumberland Cycles Attire and we had a very good showing.

Our club Points System is off to a very dynamic start.  Be sure to have a look at our points leaders!

Kentucky Indiana Series Race 1 - L'Espre

JT, Brad Herman, Jenny Denney, Aaron Denney, Jay Garman, Charles Senters, and Adam Bourne went up to the L'Espre Road Race in Louisville today and they all have a great time!  The results are not posted, but Adam, JT and Charles got pack finishes with Jenny Denney probably getting the highest placing... We will post results when they come in.

The race was very large with the CAT 4/5 field being composed of 94 riders!!!  Massive.

Charles went down in the last 200 meters because somebody clipped his front wheel. He was in contention to win the entire race before he went down!
