Mount Victory Road Race - time critical

Cumberland Cycles Team Rider, Jay Garman at Maryville Crit 3/9/08

The Mount Victory Road Race is quickly approaching and the news has spread wide and far. Not only will we be getting most of the KY/IN competitors, many of the Tennessee teams are going to show up as well.

As a club member, If you are going to be competing in this race - we are not expecting much from you except to focus on the race itself. But Charles Senters and Brad Herrman, two of our club officers who have been working extremely hard to get the race put together have requested that our racers meet Friday night before the race to do a few errands. There will be a lot to do, and as these last two weeks tick down, Charles and Brad will have more and more things included on their "punch list". All of our club members have been asked to help out and a great many of them have signed on to help.  But we also need help from our competitors... and Charles has asked for a gathering of our racers (and club members) Friday night, before the race - to put the final touches on. If at all possible, please make yourself available that night, March 21. Charles and Brad will be in contact with you for times and places... and maybe even a punch list.

What to expect as a non-racing club volunteer

The races will leave the Shopville fire house at the designated times.  Each field will NOT return to the firehouse until the end of the race. So if you are stationed at the firehouse, you will see the fields leave and you will see them finish. If you are out on the course directing traffic, you will see many groups of riders come by and it will be difficult for you to discern who they are (what category).  That is ok. You will see packs of riders and you will see individual riders who are either off the front of a category or off the back. Please provide every rider will all the assistance you can in terms of safely passing your station.

Southern Belle Dairy will providing neutral water support on the race course on the hill up Providence Road. By the time the fields get to that point, the race should be fairly well staggered out. The difficulty of this terrain will shatter all of the fields in to small groups and individual riders. Southern Belle will be providing folks for this station.

There will more news from Brad and Charles, but we will have rolling support and rolling marshals as well. We will also have radio contact with most course marshals. I believe that we will providing transportation for all of the volunteers out to their designated marshalling station.... But please stay tuned as correspondence from our race directors will probably come within the next few days.

If you have not yet volunteered, please consider helping out.

Cumberland Cycles Club and Team Photos

Craig Dooley (PhotoReflect - kentucky backroads photography) will be at the race and the club will be hiring him to take a few photos our of club and team.  He will be covering the race on his own, but he will be taking club and team photos for us as well. We will ask all volunteers, club member and team members and sponsors to arrive at the race early to do this photo session with Craig.  Please stay tuned for those times.

The next time you are contacted regarding your participation in this race will be from our club officers.... so let me take this time to offer my gratitude to everybody who is going to volunteer or race in this event!

I especially want to thank Brad Herrman and Charles Senters for their hard work this winter getting this event together, and I also want to thank our club sponsors!
