Crew News - June 15

Hello Crew,

Roger Whitlock, Jeff Parmelee and Jack Evans have made moves to make our team training rides on Tuesday and Thursday at  Barnesburg more productive and more inline with modern training philosophies.  We are very fortunate to have folks on our team and in our club who have a lifetime of knowledge in human anatomy and exercise physiology like Jeff and Roger. As for me, yes, I know how to race and I have used the Lemond/Eddy B. training methods in cycling for years.. but these people - right here on our team, are professionals in health care, rehabilitation and exercise physiology.  When ever they speak, I for one, listen.

Tonight's team ride consisted of four 4-mile intervals. These are very long intervals, and we had eight team members do at least 3 of the 4 sessions. Only Jack, Jeff and Roger did all four brutally long intervals. The other five team members rode the final interval, but did so in a pace line exercise. That was very productive as well. Coming back Barnesburg Church, the team conducted a sprint points exercise which paid 18 total points to the winner, and then paid down by 2. I am very happy to announce that Nick Cabrinni, a very talented multi-sport athlete, won that exercise, edging out  ALL OF OUR BEST ROAD CYCLISTS!  Way to go Nick!!!!  Simply amazing that a gear-grinding, running and swimming, multi-sported fellow such as Nick could turn on all of our best road cyclists, and beat them in a very strategic, very energetic, end-game sprint exercise.

Not only did we have the eight team members do the interval workout, but team mates Jenny and Aaron Denney rode with the club ride hosted by Brad Hewett. A total of ten riders rode with the club/sport group with a couple of riders showing up late and riding on their own.  Cumberland Cycles Cycling Club packed the Barnesburg Church parking lot again tonight, and it was very very good to see.

A big Thanks goes out to Brad Hewett who has been coming out every week, promoting the sport group the entire year.  He has even riden by himself on a few occasions. It is folks like Brad who compose the very backbone of a cycling club.

We want to offer a very warm welcome to Carry G., from London who is a very accomplished rider. Carry has a lot of riding experience with the London Bike Shop and I am very happy to have this caliper of rider coming out to join our club/sport riders with Brad and many others.

After the rides where over, we all ate water Mellon. In the next few weeks, Jack Evans has agreed to bring a gril out for one of our weeknight rides to grill hotdog's and hamburgers for the crew.

Our Racing Crew will be busy for most of the remaining weekends of the summer, but be sure to come out for a Tuesday or Thursday night ride at Barnesburg... I am certain that you could find a ride or a group of riders who suits your level of fitness. We also want to invite you to participate in our BARNESBURG TIME TRIAIL one week from tonight, Tuesday, June 24. First Rider off at 6:30 PM.

PLEASE WATCH FOR AN ALL HANDS, FULLY SUPPORTED CYCLING TOUR PROMOTED BY YOUR CLUB, TEAM AND BIKE SHOP SOME TIME THIS SUMMER!

Finally, keep Roger Whitlock, Jonathon Thompson and Jack Evans in your Thoughts and Prayers as they will participate in the Masters National Championships next week.
