AVERY TRACE ROAD RACE AND TIME TRIAL AND THE TENNESSEE STATE CRITERIUM CHAMPIONSHIP
We had a busy weekend of racing. Jonathon Thompson and Jack Evans rode the Avery Trace Road Race on Saturday morning, in Gainesville, Tennessee and they both raced well. Jack ended up 11th in the Masters 50+ race, and JT ended up 13th in the 40+ race.  It was a hilly course, and both riders felt like they raced well.

Jack Evans and Jonathon Thompson and Roger Whitlock then raced in the Avery Trace Time Trial Saturday afternoon. Jack ended up 7th, Roger 4th and Jonathon 4th in their respective categories.

The Tennessee State Championship Criterium was held today, Sunday, June 22.  Jack Evans, Jenny Denney and Aaron Denney competed.  Jack placed 9th and Jenny placed 4th in their respective categories. After winning the Tomato Head Omnium three weeks ago, Aaron Upgraded from a 5 to a 4, and this was his first race in the 4 category.

Congratulations to all these riders!

CLUB POINTS
Jack Evans has extended his lead in the overall club points race over Aaron Denney who is in second place. Jenny Denney's 4th place in the Tennessee Criterium put her in front of Mr. Adam Bourne for 4th place.  Even though others, including Roger, and JT also gained significant points, no other place changes occurred.
One significant place changed occurred but not due to Avery Trace.  Walter Thompson, won of our sponsors just returned home from his 2 week cycling tour in Italy. Water rode 11 days, at 5 points a day, so he moved up significantly. Walter also did a metric centaury on June 21, so he was paid 5 points for that completion.

Walter Thompson, "Wallyworld" on our team Kits - has become very fit, and we look forward to seeing him get even fitter!!!

Just as last year, we will recognize our 2008 club points winner on our 2009 team uniform. But I think it would be neat to come up with some kind of artsy logo - "John Doe,  2008 Cumberland Cycles Rider of the Year".  This could go on our 2009 Kits.

RACE ACROSS AMERCA - RAAM - CUMBERLAND CYCLES 2009 OR 2010
I have had a lot on interest in Cumberland Cycles participating in the 2009 or 2010 RAAM.  It is probably time to start looking at this, so we need to find a motivated non-riding individual who can get us organized, review the registration requirements, start raising money, start selecting a team and getting things started in general. Tom McGeehan seems like a good candidate to be the RAAM Team Captain or Dave Zwick. Orperhaps both of these team members. Anybody else interested in taking on the rather large task of managing a RAAM  team either in 2009 or 2010, please speak up.

CLUB 2008 RACING ACTIVITY
Cumberland Cycles Team and Club have 35 riders who have participated in at least one point baring event. Most riders have participated in many more than just one. In fact, these 35 individuals have produced a total of 392 Starts to 86 points baring events.  This is 4.6 riders per event! I for one think this is great level of activity. And remember, we are not even counting our MTB riders completely nor our Multisport's very accurately either. Good job guys and gals....
