October 24

Hello Crew!

I hope this note finds you doing well, resting and getting ready for fall riding and winter training!  I have taken eight days completely off from the bike and as of last Monday, I have begun my training foundation for the 2008 racing season!  Yes, this is a week early from what I had planned.

Even though I have opted from begin this early, many others do not opt to do so. Some people don't even begin until January. If you have a desire to race with us next year, when you start training is completely up to you, but even if you have never raced or trained before, you have plenty of time to get started and actually be competitive next year!  Please let us know what we can do to help!

USA CYCLING CLUB
Even though I am the race team captain, our club is not exclusively for racers!!! In light of this fact, Mr. Brad Herrman, our new club president, has dedicated a large fraction of his energy to developing our sport/tour/casual cycling community and will be providing some organization to this end!  As a result, Brad is organizing a fall casual ride this coming Saturday.  The information for this ride is provided below.

USA CYCLING TEAM
foundation training
The racing crew will promote fall foundation training rides immediately.  This doesn't mean you have to participate. Come out and start training when you and your coach are ready.  These rides will be fairly causal and will be as nonagressive as possible. These rides should include anybody and everybody who raced in 2007 plus anybody who is able to average 14-15 mph over 20-50 miles. I will post team ride information on a regular basis. These rides will be fun, scenic and should be fulfilling and not depleting. I hope to see everybody out, having fun over these next few fall and early winter weekends!

local sanctioned races/Cumberland Cycles Promoted Races
I am extremely pleased to announce that Mr. Brad Herrman, our club and team president has successfully negotiated with 2wheelsports to bring one of the six 2008 Kentucky/Indiana Spring Series Races to the Somerset area!  We have not yet decided on a course, but we have the date. March 22, 2008. This Spring Series events are highly contested, and will bring national bracket racers and teams to our area. The six week event is a fairly significant national points series.  Even though we would eventually like to bring a more festive event to the Somerset Area, a hard core "spring classic" type event is just perfect for us in our first year as a race host. There will be several hundred racers here, and very little "hub-ub". This is a serious event and mainly the hard-core points hunters will be racing.

We need volunteers for this race. Please contact us in the next several weeks to let us know is you can help marshal the race.

2008 Sponsors
We have collected a significant amount of money from our 2008 sponsors. We are very pleased to announce the following supporters for our 2008 racing season.

CUMBERLAND CYCLES (NUCLEAR SPONSOR)
SOUTHERN BELLE DAIRY
THE UPS STORE
SINKING VALLEY WINERY
EVANS, ARVILLE, ATWELL AND COMPANY
PERSONAL FINANCE COMPANY (PFC)
AVEDA HAIR PRODUCTS
TTIA
TOTAL REHAB CENTER
MARK HENRY EYE SURGON
JOE TRAVIS
LIFESCAN IMAGING
CUMBERLAND LIQUADATORS
WALTER THOMPSON

This money will be used to offset the cost of team and club uniform production and will also be used to pay entry fees for our racing crew (multisport, tour and road). Rules and procedures for race expense and uniform re-reimbursable will be developed and published at a later date.

TEAM DEVELOPMENTAL RIDE SUNDAY - OCTOBER 28 @2 PM
The team will meet at the Shopeville Library (beside Shopville Elementary School) and will ride to Otts Store just outside of London. This will be about a 40 mile ride. Easy to moderate pace.

CASUAL FALL RIDE ANNOUNCMENT - SATURDAY OCTOBER 27
Hey everyone, I am wanting to put a ride together on Saturday the 27th around the Eubank/Science Hill area. This is going to be for EVERYONE. If you have a comfort bike, hybrid, mountain bike, bmx bike, tricycle or anything you can pedal you are invited. We are just going to have a fun, relaxed, slow ride around the country side. I had planned this ride to go along with the changing of the leaves, but it is going to be to hard to predict. That is why we are just going to pick the 27th. We will use the next weekend as a rain date. Again this ride is going to be for everyone,  the pace will be low so we can enjoy the ride. It will go as slow as the slowest person. I just want as many people to be out there as possible. If you have a kiddie caboose bring them along! I would like to see whole families out there riding together. Lets see how many people we can get out there on the road. I have heard people all year talking about and wanting a ride like this and here it is. If you know someone that isn't going to get this message invite them , invite your neighbors, your church family, your kids friends and their parents, everybody you know! Please get in touch with Marc or myself so we can get an idea of whose coming.

Expect the ride to be about 7-10 miles depending totally on those that arrive.  We would even like to find someone willing to drive a support vehicle with the riders just in case anyone gets overworked.  Any volunteers?

We will plan to meet at Pulaski Baptist Church in Science Hill at 11:30am, to depart soon following.

Please understand we ask that everyone has a helmet, some water, a bike, energy and a smile!

Thank you all, and lets show our support of cycling in the area by attending this ride!
