Crew News - July 7

Hello Crew,

Well Masters Nationals are over, and we as a club had a good showing. Jack Evans, Jonathon Thompson, Roger Whitlock and Frank Cornett were all able to participate. We had some finishes that we were proud of and some disappointments as well - what team isn't like this?  But this is only our second year as a racing team... so I am very proud of the fact that our club and team PUT FOUR PEOPLE IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!  Way-to-go Cumberland Cycles!!!

In terms of the races remaining this year - Jenny and Aaron Denney will do the National Calendar Events in Louisville this coming weekend.... Walter Thompson will do the Tennessee Senior Games in hopes of qualifying for Senior Nationals in San Francisco next year.

We have the Alanti Omnium in Nashville, the first weekend in August and BWM Omnium in Chattanooga the third weekend in August.  We also have a Kentucky State Championship Road Race and Criterium in London, KY the first weekend in September. In other words, we have lots of reasons to keep training as a team.

Weekend Results

I am very happy to report that Jack and Roger raced in Tennessee this weekend past. Jack and Roger did the time trail portion of the Omnium. Jack placed 5th and Roger got 7th.  Jack proceeded to execute the Omnium, but flatted in the road race and could have done very well. Even though Jack did not complete the Omnium due to a flat tire in road race, he proceeded on to the Criterium where he earned a hard fought 5th place!!!!  very good result.

Weekend Rides
We had two very good team rides this weekend.  Saturday we rode from Barnesburg Church and did a new loop out past the Sinking Valley Winery.  Sunday's ride went out to Sulphur Springs Hollow from the Vision Center.  Both were very good rides, and we are very happy to welcome Andrew to these team rides.  We a very much looking forward to putting Andrew on the road racing circuit next spring as our newest CAT V racer at L'espre.

It is really good to see Rick Rice out on the bike - after his knee surgery, he seems to be doing very well, and as always, Rick is a delight to ride with.

Dr. Mark Henry continues to ride well with the road team even though he is technically one of our multisport athletes. Us roady's like to claim Doctor Mark as one of our own because he always rides with us. Also, he is currently leading our club points race in the multisport category. Mark is a good runner and a good swimmer too - so I doubt if we will ever convert him to a pure road cyclist... But he certainly rides well enough to join us on the road circuit.

Absents
I will be traveling for the next two weeks to visit my Son in Utah. I will update as necessary or as I need to.  I am really nervous about visiting my Son -  He is at a wilderness camp this summer for reasons that are a bit difficult. Please lift us up in your prayers this week.
