Crew News - Blue Grass Games

www.cumberlandcycles.com

I understand that there is a really nice ride forming at Barnsburg at about 630 on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  This is not a team ride, but consists of athletic men and women who have not been bike racing this year.  I think the group averages from 14 to 17 mph.  This is a great ride forming so we want to encourage anybody who wants a good, fun, moderate ride, to come out and join in.

Our causal riders also ride from Barnsburg on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Please contact Marc Travis for more information on all these rides.

BLUE GRASS GAMES
Cumberland Cycles Crew Racing team fielded a total of eight racers in the 2007 Blue Grass Games Bicycle Race in Lexington Last Sunday. Aaron Denney, Glen Gridler and Brad Hermann all raced in the open CAT V race with Aaron placing 8th over all.

Mr. Frank Cornett, a Cumberland Cycles racer from London rode in the CAT V 40+ race and was very active and happy with his result. (photo:

Jenny Denney and Lindsey Powell participated in the Womens open (CAT 1,2,3,4) race and did very well.  This was Lindsey and Jenny's first official race and they took 3rd and 4th place for Cumberland Cycles!  Jenny Denny's placement earned her the Bronze Metal in the Blue Grass Games Women's Cycling Race and we are very proud of her.  Wow.  Her first race!  Congrats to Lindsey as well.

Jack Evans, JT and Adam Bourne all took part in the Masters race and they all raced very well. Adam ended up with a same time finish of 6th place and JT ended up with a same time finish of 15th.... But the real story is about Jack Evans.  Since this is the race I participated in, it is the one I can comment on the most. Basically, two masters teams converged on this race;  Pedal the Planet and Pedal Power, both teams are from Lexington. The race was in Lexington. So Cumberland Cycles got caught in a power struggle between these two teams. In order put a man in a two-man breakaway, Pedal the Planet pushed very hard.  Pedal Power reacted very strongly with Cumberland Cycles trying to either get a man up to the break, or bring the break back. We did not succeed in either, but the fighting was fierce. The really remarkable thing about the entire race was not that Adam placed 6th or that JT placed 15th, but that Jack Evans, the only 50 year old rider left in the finishing pack, came to the front in the last ten minutes of the race (after all of the extreme in-fighting between these teams) and attacked!!!!  When Jack launched his attack, the remaining pack split, unable to match Jack's acceleration - and left only about 20 riders for Adam and JT to sprint against!  After Jack's attack, he faded back, but the damage he'd done to the pack certainly benefited JT and Adam. So, Hat's off to Jack Evans!  One of the most impressive efforts, both physically and strategically, we've seen all year!

Jenny Denney and Lindsey Powell were the two top placing members of our team!  Congratulations to both of these women and Thanks for racing for our club and team!
