News- April 3

Hello Crew!~

CLUB/TEAM BLOG/RESULTS: Cumberland Cycles Crew Club Blog

We held our second club time trial of 2007 last Sunday and the turnout was just great!  We had 21 participants.  We had several club members come out and help without whom we'd have a hard time doing this event.  We also had several spectators!

We want to send out a heartfelt "Thank you" to everybody who came out!!!!  Riders!  Helpers!!!  And spectators!!!

There was a new course record set at the event by Mr. David Hayes from London, Kentucky.  He is a Category II Rider and is currently racing for Ohio Valley Velo. He was able to post a time 3 seconds faster than the pervious course record.  We had several riders from the London Bike Shop participate as well as a couple of riders form the Pedal Power Team out of Lexington.  We want to thank these folks for traveling over to our club event!

There were a couple of circumstances that warrant attention at our time trail event.  Dr. Mark Henry, one of Cumberland Cycles multi-sport athletes, has been on a mission trip to Central America this past week and only arrived back into Somerset 12 hours before our club event (in the wee hours of the morning) - still - having not trained at all the entire week before, Dr. Henry chose to come out and participate in our club event!  I wouldn't have been so brave!  Also - Due to a family medical emergency, another one of our club riders unexpectedly gave blood the day before the club event, yet he still choose to come out and join us!  And we had a third rider who has been very sick for the past couple of weeks and he still came out to post a time!

Also, Charles Senters Flatted, and was able to change his wheel and still post a time under 26 minutes!!!!!

These are three examples of what makes a great club!!!  Our riders are coming out to participate even though they know their life-circumstances have left them vulnerable to diminished performances.  Yet they still choose to come and post a time!  Like I said - I usually take any excuse I can get!  Hat's off to you fellows!

I also want to express how important our volunteers are to our club and our events!  For our club riders and our shop owner and his wife to spend their Sunday afternoons taking care of every thing that needs to be done for our Crew to have a good time trial is a lot to ask and this is the very backbone of a strong team and club!  Hats off to you ladies and fellows!

Finally - Thanks to Jack Evans.  This event is his "baby".  He started it a couple of years ago and has been conducting it a few times a year. I appreciate him getting this started!  For the next event - we will probably choose a weekend when no large races are going on, and send out regional invitations. Our next club time trial will be in four to six weeks.  STAY TUNED!

CLUB STANDINGS:
Cumberland Cycles racers were not eligible for placement points at the time trial last Sunday but our club riders were.  We had several club riders move up in club points due to their participation in last Sunday's event.   CLUB STANDINGS

RECENT RIDES AND RACES
The club has had some nice rides out at Barnsburg on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The racing crew has had some fast rides with as many as eight riders showing up!  The Yellow Tail Ride has gotten some new participants and they are having some good rides too!

The team rode 40 miles last Saturday in the hills and it was a very nice ride!  We were very glad to see Mr. Aaron Denny come out to ride with the Racing Crew because we see him as one of our most promising young  riders!  Here is his blog:  Aaron’s Blog

ROAD RACING
After a couple of weeks off, road racing will resume for our road crew on April 7: Fallen Heroes Circuit Race in Louisville which is a Kentucky/Indiana Spring Series Race.  I will not be attending this race because my Son, Jon Boy will be coming to Somerset for the Easter Weekend!

FIRST 2007 MAJOR TEAM EVENT: TWO WEEKS FROM NOW
The road crew will be going to Chattanooga on April 15 for the Raccoon Mountain Road Race. This is a Division I TBRA Points Race!  Here is the race link:  Scenic City Velo, Chattanooga, TN.

CUMBERLAND CYCLES TIME TRIAL TEAM
The Monrovia Time Trial Series (Indiana) allows four-person time trial teams to post 40K times!  We are planing to post a four-man 40K time sometime during this series (This summer).  If you are interested - please let us know.  We have enough strong riders to compose two separate teams!  But since this series is a mid-week event and not many of our club riders can simply take a day off from work to drive up to Indiana - we will compose a main team with 4 alternates.  But we need to drill drill and drill!  So we need to get started right away.  There are 15 events from now until September 8 and we may post our time at any one (or more) of these events.  Our team goal for this year will not be to compete with other teams but to complete the course (25 miles) in under one hour

CUMBERLAND CYCLES
Remember- Marc is taking orders for 2007 CCC Jerseys for use NOW.  Let Marc know if you need a new Cumberland Cycles Jersey!

Winter clothing down at the shop is on sale for about another week so get on down there and stock up for the 07/08 cold weather training season!  (We are planning on starting on 2008 club base training November 1 - 2007)  It is not too early to begin thinking about next winter and spring!

Remember, it is suppose to get cold later this week, so go down to the shop and buy yourself some winter cloths, break them in during our up and coming dogwood winter, then put them away for next year!

Our club will be updating our uniforms for the 2008 racing season.  This may include multisport clothing i think.  We are planing to have a uniform meeting some time this summer or early fall - Stay tuned!

Also - we are looking for sponsors for the 2008 racing season - Keep this in mind!

Finally - in terms of riders - remember now is the time to start recruiting for 2008!  We need riders of any level and any age to begin laying down foundations now!  Please spread the word that we plan to have a very active and powerful team next year!!!!

LOOSE ENDS
We have so many new riders - I have been asked to pass along something I did not actually know.  Our club is welcome to park at the Barnsburg Church for our rides but the church requests that we park in the lower parking lot.
