The Lake Cumberland Trail Foundation will be meeting at Rocky Hollow Park in the downstairs meeting room at 5:00 PM on Monday March 10th. This will be the first meeting of the Lake Cumberland Trail Foundation (LCTF) in four years! To this point the purpose of LCTF has been the acquisition and improvement of an abandoned rail bed in the southern part of Pulaski county. After opening a 1.5 mile section of rail trail, we have become stymied on the remaining 6 miles by the overwhelming cost of rehabilitating the tunnels and the reluctance of the Forest Service to allow us to improve the existing rail bed.

In the last year or two, enthusiasm in the area of mountain biking and walking/hiking trails has increased to a level that I believe major progress can be made if that enthusiasm can be channeled in the same direction. Mark Travis and myself, the only remaining officers of the foundation, have decided to use the LCTF to further this need for more recreational trails in other areas such as Pulaski County Park, Med Park West, Somersplash Water Park, Somersport Park, and any other area that we can make genuine progress in the bettermentof or recreational trails in the Somerset area.

The LCTF can be a fantastic tool if motivated, energetic people with a love for the outdoors and a desire to improve and increase the number of trails we have to reach out and enjoy it. Please attend this meeting and tell anyone that you think may be interested in our cause. We will be discussing all old business up to this point, so don’t feel like it is too late to get involved. We are just beginning in our new direction, so come be a part of it!

Crew News

Hello Everybody,

The news from the Series organizers is that "The Racing is On!!!" This coming Saturday our road racing season officially begins in Louisville with event #1 of the Kentucky/Indiana Spring Cycling Series. L' Esprit Road Race.

All of our winter core racers will be attending this race, and I am very excited about it. We should have one of the largest teams in the CAT IV/V field and any one of our riders could win this race! JT will be racing alone again this year in the CAT III/IV field for the series and will probably get clobbered in these first few races. Kentucky Indiana Road Race Series

We have a few riders who intend to race the entire series this year! This will involve eight races and will run from March 1 until April 19. One of these races will be conducted here in Pulaski County. Since the KYIN Series keeps score from week to week, there will be a general classification winner in each category. I expect that Adam Bourne, Charles Senters, Jay Garman, and Aaron Denney could win a top-five classification by the end of the series, with Mr. Senters as my pick and Mr. Bourne as a very close second. Mr. Bourne intends to do some running races this spring, while Mr. Denney does not intend to race the entire series as he and his wife, Jenny will start racing in Tennessee and other series before the end of ours. Mr. Garman is a single parent and is also in college, so he may not be able to attend all of the races. Mr. Senters (Charles) has a child on the way, but so long as his job does not get out of control, and his wife does well, he is planning to race the entire series. As strong as he has gotten, I am sure that he will get a top five placement in the general classification of this series. JT also plans to race the entire series, but he will be in a different category and he may get a top ten GC.

After the KY In Spring Series, all of our racers will begin to race in other states, most notably, Tennessee. Starting in April and continuing through the rest of the year, we have many stage races that our crew will be attending. These races are the root of our racing year and it is when JT plans to peak in the masters fields when Adam, Charles, Jack and the rest of the "over 30" crowd can join JT in races.

Also racing this weekend is Dr. Henry - one of our multi-sport athletes. Dr. Henry will be racing this year in several triathlons and multisport events and will also be racing in some cycling events as well as a Category V. The race that Dr. Henry is hoping to attend this Sunday is Event #2 of the Max Performance Triathlon Series. Kentucky Triathlon Calendar at TriFind.com

TRAINING RIDES
The club and racing team will do spinning classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 26 and 27 at the YMCA at 7 PM. Please come and join us no matter what your fitness level! There will also be the usual spinning session at Total Rehab on Thursday, at 8:30 PM.

All of our racers will be at L'espre this Saturday, but we will ride from the Vision Center Sunday, March 2, at 2 PM.

KENTUCKY/INDIANA SPRING ROAD SERIES
I am very pleased to announce that our road team is now prepared to begin racing!!! They will begin in ten days from now with the Kentucky/Indiana Spring series. Here is the schedule for that eight race series....

March 1 - Louisville
March 8 - Henryville, Indiana
March 15 - Richmond, Kentucky
March 22 -Somerset, Kentucky
March 29 - Lexington, Kentucky
April 5 - Ownensboro, Kentucky
April 12 - Louisville, Kentucky
April 19 - Louisville, Kentucky

This series will crown an overall champion, and any one of our five or six riders planning to race the series could be one of the champions!!! Please follow along and be sure to come out and volunteer at our race on March 22!!!

Club and Sport Riding
Our club officers have been very busy organizing our Spring Series Event at Mt. Victory, but after March 22, they will begin to focus their efforts on sport cycling on our area. I think there is talk of putting on a bicycle tour of some kind by the end of the summer in the county. The time changes March 9, and we will begin to ride at Barnsburg again! Last year was great because we had several groups that organized themselves. I very much hope the same thing happens this year and I hope that the club / organization can help.

The Hardest Ride in Pulaski
Charles, Aaron, Adam and JT set out on a ride of unknown distance last Saturday. It was thought to be about 40 to 60 miles. The foursome left the Vision Center and headed south down Jarvis Avenue/Rush Branch Road, all knowing that the ride would probably end up being a bloodbath. They climbed to the top of Haynes Knob fairly well intact, and descended the back side of Haynes Knob on highway 1675 toward White Lilly. Still fairly well intact, with Charles climbing conservatively, Adam, Aaron and JT stopped on the top of the brutal Westleys Chaple Hill to remove unwanted clothing. Charles took the opportunity to steal a gap all the way to White Lilly School. At Highway 192, Charles, Adam and JT attacked the downhill toward Mt. Victory which made for some very fast and dynamic riding. Aaron descended to Buck Creek with much more sense than did the other three. Once across Buck Creek, the crew turned left on Providence Road (part of the race course) and with Charles still climbing conservatively, Aaron, JT and Adam climbed the Providence Hill together and once on top, they paced to keep Charles from coming up (they paid him back for running off over white Lilly). At the end of Providence Road, the route turned left on 1003 and it all came back together just before Cannon Ball Road. The Foursome turned left on Cannon Ball and Road all the way to Grundy and back to the Vision Center for the most difficult 40 mile ride any of us had ever ridden.
