As a team and club, we have had a total of 194 individual race starts as a team! This is an awsum show of interest and activity in our team! I want to thank everybody who raced or toured for Cumberland Cycles this year. And it's not over yet!

Tour De London Course

Jeff Ekoniak has recently ridden the Tour De London Course and has offered to take the team over there for a "once over". Perhaps this weekend would be a good time for that. We have no races this coming weekend so it could be a good thing to do! Send me emails regarding your thoughts. |

Hello Crew!
We've had several team members out racing this weekend past. Aaron Denney, Jack Evans, Adam Bourne and Roger Whitlock all participated in the Jeff Roth Memorial Omnium Stage Race in Knoxville. Roger participated in the time trial stage and got 6th place in his category! Jack Evans raced in the road race and finished 8th after a very good race. Adam Bourne DNF'd in the road race due to a punctured tire and that's a hard pill to swallow but it happens (Adam was in the lead pack when he flatted). Aaron Denney raced in all three races (time trial, road race and crit) and so he got Ominum points as well. Aaron placed 3rd over all in the stage race in the Category V section! So Aaron has broken the 300 points level in our club points system!
Mark Henry, one of our clubs strongest multi-sport athletes, raced in Columbus, Indiana in the Columbus Challenge Sprint Triathlon but we do not have his results. I am sure he placed well.
JT spent some high quality time with is Son in Indy over the weekend and that has lifted his spirits a great deal.

There are not very many races left in the year. We have BMW in Chattanooga, at least one more club time trial, probably two, tour de London and then our own Burn side Race. Some of our club members have been extremely active this year and I am so very proud of what we have done here this year! We have become noticed regionally in our races - andthis is thanks to club members JT, Jack Evans, Aaron Denney, Brad Hermann, Adam Bourne, Roger Whitlock, Charlie Bailey and others. We have several riders ranked #1 in the State of Kentucky in their age and cat divisions. What more could a team captain ask for?
Let us now look to the Tour De London - the Kentucky State Championships, and see if we can't pull off some really high finishes.
Annual Dinner
We will have our first annual dinner on October 6th at the Doolin House, in down town Somerset. We need for everybody to RSVP so that we know how much food to order! We will send out RSVP instructions later.

First Year Dinner - First Announcement
Our First Year Dinner will be held on Saturday, October, 6th, 2007 at the Doolin House Bed and Breakfast located in down town Somerset. The Doolin House
We are hoping everybody interested in cycling will show up socialize! There will be a guest speaker, cyclist Robert Brooks and we will present awards and recognitions! It will be great fun and will be a healthy start to our fall and winter training for the 08 touring and racing season!
Even though I've focused this blog on racing, we hope to have anybody who rides or even owns a bike, to show up and celebrate with us and Cumberland Cycles for our first year dinner.

Allanti Classic - Team Points Leader Change

Aaron Denney takes the lead in the Cumberland Cycles Points System
Mr. Aaron Denney has been racing his "tail end" off this summer and having just completed the Allanti Classic Stage Race in Nashville, Tennessee (RR, TT and Crit) with a 4th place over all General Classification in the CAT V Under 30 field, Aaron has now over taken Mr. Adam Bourne as our top club points earner! Congratulations to Aaron and we want to thank him for all of his hard work and intense effort!
Also appearing at portions of the Allanti Classic were Jack Evans (Masters 40+ road race), Adam Bourne (CAT V 30+ road race), Roger Whitlock (CAT V 30+ time trial) and JT (Masters 30+ Crit).
Adam Bourne captured the highest placement of any Cumberland Cycles rider with second place in the road race! Roger Whitlock captured 4th place in the time trial. Aaron Denney got 4th in the Crit, 5th in the time trial and 18th in the road race. JT and Jack DNF'd - Jack due to illness and JT due to heat exhaustion.

Cumberland Cycles Crew Racing team fielded a total of four racers in the Allanti Classic in Nashville, Tennessee over the weekend. Aaron Denney participated in all three events and earned Omnium Points and got a 4th place General Classification result. Jack Evans and Adam Bourne raced in the Road Race, Roger Whitlock raced in the time trail and JT raced in the Criterium. Bob Brooks, a friend of Cumberland Cycles who is a USCF Coach and races for the Indiana Hand Center, also raced the entire stage race.
JT raced in the masters 30+ race along with Bob Brooks. The start time was 1 PM, Sunday, Somerset time and the course was held on the black, black asphalt parking area around the Tennessee Titian's Stadium. The temperature was 98 F. It was about a half mile course with six hard corners and the pace for the Maters 30+ race was simply "chain-blue-lightening" fast! The race went for 40 minutes, and JT and Bob raced well. A solo rider from team Juris got away from the pack very early. JT spent some time up near the front for the first half of the race, but then the heat took its toll, just at about the time Bob Brooks came to the front and attacked. Bob got clear with about ten other riders, so JT did not work to pull Bob (a cumberland cyclesfriend) back in. But the solo Juris Rider lapped the main field, and so Juris sent two team riders to the front of the main pack to keep the pace hot so no other breakaways would re-enter the main field. The race leader simply hung on to the main pack, automatically winning the race so long as no other rider caught the main field. So once the race leader lapped the main field, Juris accelerated the race to speeds that JT simply was unable to maintain in the heat! Also as a result of the Juris activity, the ten man breakaway that Bob was in was also caught, but Bob held out for an 8th place finish. JT dropped out with three laps to go (1.5 miles left) do to heat exhaustion.
The pace of this race was well in access of 25 MPH.
